Rio Grande City Main Street has been designated as an accredited Main Street America program for meeting rigorous Rio Grande City Main Street has performance standards set by the National Main Street Center.
Rio Grande City’s Main Street Program is evaluated annually by Texas Main Street, which works in partnership with the National Main Street Center to identify the local programs that meet ten performance standards. These standards set the benchmarks for measuring an individual Main Street program’s application of the Main Street Four-Point Approach® to commercial district revitalization. Evaluation criteria determines the communities that are building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and include standards such as fostering strong public- private partnerships, tracking economic progress, preserving historic buildings and more.
“We are extremely proud of Rio Grande City Main Street’s national accreditation and the work our Main Street Advisory Board has achieved this past year,” said Mayor Villarreal.
“We are honored to receive national and state recognition,” said Rosa Gonzalez, small business owner and Rio Grande City Main Street Advisory Board President. “This accreditation validates the hard work and pride our volunteers and community have in Rio Grande City.”
The Rio Grande City Main Street Program provides several services and assistance available to Main Street businesses including: Design Assistance from the Texas Historical Commission and much more. Rio Grande City Main Street also hosts a variety of special events throughout the year.
