The Rio Grande City Economic Development Corporation recently hosted its ninth Employer Expo and Job Fair in Rio Grande City. This event was organized in collaboration with Workforce Solutions, the Rio Grande City Public Library, and the South Texas College Starr County Campus to connect employers with job seekers and provide career opportunities.

A total of thirty-six employers attended, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, South Texas CDL Institute, and Bechtel Energy, among others, all seeking to fill various positions. The event attracted over 180 job seekers, with employers extending around 143 potential job offers on-site.

In preparation for the job fair, the Rio Grande City Public Library offered resume writing assistance and provided attendees with five free copies of their resumes. Additionally, just before the job fair began, an Interviewing Skills workshop was held to guide participants on how to make a positive first impression through effective interviewing techniques.

The job fair not only provided employment opportunities but also included valuable resources for job seekers. Fine Line Barbershop generously offered free professional haircuts, helping attendees look their best for interviews. Merle Norman Cosmetics provided complimentary makeup consultations to boost participants' confidence and readiness for the job search. There was also an opportunity for attendees to take professional headshots, which can enhance their online profiles and resumes. Furthermore, the Border Region Behavioral Health Center offered free health screenings, ensuring that participants were prepared for job opportunities while also looking after their overall well-being.

Employers went the extra mile to support job seekers by donating a variety of door prizes, adding excitement and appreciation to the event. These prizes ranged from gift cards to company-branded merchandise and career development resources and created a welcoming atmosphere that made the job fair an even more rewarding experience.
